Reader, I am a Floridian. I urge you to consider this within a political context, because I sure as hell do — I am a Floridian, through and through, born and bred.

Most days I wake up, go online to take a peek at the world, and ultimately feel at least somewhat responsible for the past eight years of failed domestic and international policy. And even though I was only 15 when the 2000 recount debacle transpired in my native state, I’ve found myself repeatedly bowing my head in shame when admitting my geographic origins amidst politically-charged debates. Because I was there. In Miami-Dade county, of all places (i.e. the eighth largest county in the nation and one of the counties to WILLINGLY stop recounting votes).

So I would like now to address my home state and say the following: Florida, I know we have a history, but please let’s not mess this one up. Enough with racial profiling that resulted in 20,000 (mostly black) registered voters getting turned away from the polls in 2000. The Bay Of Pigs occurred 47 years ago; enough with Senator Mel Martinez (R-FL) lying to the United Sates’ second-largest group of Hispanics (mostly Cuban) about Obama being a communist. Just enough already.

Barack isn’t perfect, for sure. This site has openly criticized Obama’s actions in the past. But tomorrow he’ll be as close as this country gets to what it needs, and what quite frankly it’s lacked for far too long.

The comic book enthusiast in me has thought of Barack as a modern-day Harvey Dent ever since his 2004 DNC speech. Apparently, I’m. Not. Alone. And while many believe this begs the question whether Obama will, if elected, “die a hero or live long enough to see [himself] become a villain” my guess is neither.

Suffice it to say it’s time for a change. Let’s make this happen, people.

Lastly, I strongly encourage those with differing views to vote for the candidate they believe will accomplish the most good for this country. My vote would mean nothing without theirs.

Happy Election Day.
