In the midst of a caffeine-driven StumbleUpon spree I managed to land on OneSentence.org’s website. The object of the site is to write true stories in the span of a sentence. Among the more intriguing lines was “Skor’s” story, “I wrote a note to him in binary saying I thought I loved him.”

I couldn’t help but wonder what exactly that note said. Was it “I think I love you,” or “I dream of you nightly,” or perhaps he or she quoted John Cusack from High Fidelity and wrote “It’s a mystery of human chemistry, and I don’t understand it, [but] some people, as far as your senses are concerned, just feel like home.” No matter how you slice it, that’s a lot of 0’s and 1’s.

But then I got to thinking. Maybe that note was a song. And if I’d been that lucky girl or boy reading said note maybe I’d have wanted that song to be Sébastien Tellier’s “Divine.” Not because it’s the boldest declaration of love, but because it’s so shy my eyes would have surely welled with tears in a heartbeat. It’s skinny love. A song on the edge of the dance floor with its eyes on the floor, the kind of song I find unbearably irresistible.
