Best Music This Month: June 2008
July 1, 2008 at 3:12 amPosted in music Tags: best music this month, blog love, coldplay, rocky votolato
I’ve decided to spotlight the best entries/songs encountered each month on the blogs of my digital brethren. Take a listen and show them love; they deserve it.

June 1st, Sunday:
Julia from Fear Of Arthropods reflects on her relationship with Coldplay and her feelings regarding Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends. Those who are/were fans of the band — and I know I’m not the only one for whom Parachutes remains a guilty pleasure — would do well to peruse the entry at their leisure.

June 9th, Monday:
Sean over at Said The Gramophone introduces a song by We/Or/Me called “Tell Sarah.” It inspires this entry.
June 15th, Sunday:
Amy from Shake Your Fist shares “Brightness” by Organic Radio. The song fills a hole that’s existed since I heard The Books’ The Lemon of Pink and Four Tet’s Rounds.
June 24th, Tuesday:
Rocky Votolato – White Daisy Passing

Darkness descends. Chad saves me with a song by Rocky Votolato and the following poem by Ellen Bass:
The Thing Is
to love life, to love it even
when you have no stomach for it
and everything you’ve held dear
crumbles like burnt paper in your hands,
your throat filled with the silt of it.
When grief sits with you, its tropical heat
thickening the air, heavy as water
more fit for gills than lungs;
when grief weights you like your own flesh
only more of it, an obesity of grief,
you think, How can a body withstand this?
Then you hold life like a face
between your palms, a plain face,
no charming smile, no violet eyes,
and you say, yes, I will take you
I will love you, again.
June 30th, Monday:
I visit MJRC’s site, Lost In Your Inbox, and am pleasantly surprised by a waltz to warm the coldest of hearts on the dreariest of days. If you hear one song this month let it be The Real Tuesday Weld’s “Over The Hillside.”
June 30th, Monday:
You Ain’t No Picasso posts Spirtualized’s cover of Daniel Johnston’s “True Love Will Find You In The End.” Impeccable. Simply impeccable.
What did I miss? Any recommendations? I’m sure you know of at least one.

it's funny and catchy and best of all, it's not sad.
(sorry i don't know how to make links in html. i'm very limited that way.)

Hi, mjrc. Don't worry, the link worked just fine. You were right about “dog park.” My amusement knows no bounds. Thanks!

I already have both songs, but great selections!

Thanks for commenting, Dian. There should be slightly more genre variety in next month's batch. Stay tuned, and feel free to recommend anything I may have missed.
