In which I spotlight the best entries/songs encountered each month on the blogs of my digital brethren. Take a listen and show them love; they deserve it.

July 8th, Tuesday:
Man Man does a Black Cab Session. “Doo Right” is done right. And right. And right.

Also check out La Blogotheque’s Man Man Take Away Show.

July 8th, Tuesday:

Dan from Said The Gramophone (you really should read these guys daily, you know) posts the most achingly beautiful Supremes cover.

“Where Did Our Love Go?” by Night Shall Eat These Girls and Boys forges a place in my heart for good. I think about sending the track to the one pair of ears that ought hear it; I refrain for various reasons.

This is by far this month’s choice cut. Listen to it now!

July 14th, Monday:

Ratatat – Shiller

Treble writes a terrific review of Ratatat’s LP3. I debate asking Terrance whether he’ll be attending this year’s Star Trek convention in Vegas; I think better of it.

“In other words, LP3 is the next step in the evolution of a band embracing its nerdiness in all its forms, like a robot with artificial intelligence learning how to feel emotions. Yes, Ratatat is Data from Star Trek: The Next Generation.”

July 14th, Monday:
Song, By Toad posts Sparrow & the Workshop’s “Devil Song”. I leave the apartment with a bounce in my step. And what a bounce!

July 15th, Tuesday:
Pasta Primavera posts “Marianne” by The Dig. My bounce is replaced by brooding and a sudden urge to listen to +/-. Speaking of which, what ever happened to those guys?

July 16th, Wednesday:
Clearly a good week for music, and hello, Chad VanGaalen. Much thanks to The Rawking Refuses To Stop! for the introduction.

July 24th, Thursday:
Ear Farm continues to impress me with their new layout and continually satisfying discoveries. We wrap up the month with the blissful, folk tune, “Exposure” by the band Peasant.

What did I miss? Any recommendations? I spent the better part of this month in one form of disarray or another. Leave a comment and let me know of the aural gems that slipped past.

have you ever seen man man perform? incredibly wild. i've never seen anything like it.

re: +/- whatever DID happen to them? perhaps we need to investigate. :)

I adore Man Man. I've seen them live several times, and they're by far one of the best touring bands around. I was lucky enough to interview Honus Honus for Stylus Magazine (RIP) roughly a year ago. It's amazing how much has changed for the group since then.

My favorite quote from the interview:
Q: How would you describe Modest Mouse?
A: Modest Mouse is a gateway drug to better music.

About +/-, I vaguely remember them releasing an album that didn't particularly fly with me;I haven't heard a lick from them since. Let the investigation begin! =)

that's funny, what he says about modest mouse. i saw man man open for modest mouse in philadelphia in 2007 in front of a sold-out crowd and they stole the show. blew them away, actually. i even got to tell one of the guys in the band that (not sure which one it was). i should definitely go see them again.

i'm going to read that article now. the +/- investigation will have to wait! :)

I tend to obsess when it comes to all things Man Man. Honus Honus has my heart heart (though he doesn't know it).

Also, an update about +/-! They are playing a show at the Mercury Lounge on the 15th, and I've just purchased tickets. I'm going to see them and say, “Hey, yous guys. Yous guys ought to make another record, you should.” Don't know how much they'll appreciate it, but I'll say it nonetheless! =)
