An Exercise In Patience

Hanne Hukkelberg – Berlin
Norwegian Hanne Hukkelberg has voice enough to make me believe anything possible. She can coax daisies into blooming from ash trays. She can strum the Berlin Wall whole again and sigh herself in and out of existence at will, such is the quality of her timbre. And to me, despite whatever shortcomings this track may have, despite the 65-seconds it takes to reach her voice’s salient splendor, this is a song worth writing about, worth hearing if only once.
Anyone with inclinations similar to mine will attest that living in Florida, musically, is an exercise in patience. And futility.
Or futility.
I’m writing because it’s the only way I can imagine to afford myself the luxury of the “or.” I’m writing about Hanne Hukkelberg because she isn’t Feist, because you’ve most likely never heard of her, and because I think it fitting to start an MP3 blog where I last left my music journalism ventures — with a song introduced to me by former editor Todd Burns of Stylus Magazine(RIP). If roots are a treasured thing to have, I think “Berlin” as good an anchor as any.
Expect regular posts once I settle upon a decent web host for the tracks.
